A NOTE FROM YOUR LEAD ROBOT INSPECTOR
Please make sure you update your roboRIOs firmware and FRC Driver Station software to the latest versions; this will save a lot of time during inspections if you do it at home/school versus in the pits. You should also update your other devices' firmware too if you haven't yet done so (Spark Maxes, Pneumatics Hubs, etc).
Once load-in is over, you cannot bring in any more fabricated parts and you cannot work on any parts when pits close. This means if you bring in robot parts after load-in, or if you 3D print parts after pits close, your robot will be put into timeout.
Make sure your batteries are well-secured in your robot; if I were to pull up on the battery, your robot should come with it at least a little bit. Don't want any batteries flopping out onto the field!
Please make sure none of your electrical or pneumatic components are modified past what the rules allow (R710 and R803 respectively).
For teams where this is your first event of the year, just be sure you have a robot signal light on your robot easily visible, and that your main breaker and pneumatic dump valve are easily accessible!
For this year, we are moving the inspection desk to the front of the pits, next to pit admin. That means we won't have a lot of space to queue robots up for weighing, so when you are ready for inspection, please first send someone from your team to let us know you're ready for inspections instead of immediately bringing up your robot to the scale.
If you have any questions, come to the inspection desk when pits open and I'll be there wearing a fishing vest and holding a stuffed animal!
Regards,
Noah Tom-Wong
FRC Mentor Slide Submission! Are you interested in shouting out your mentor?
Due April 1, 2024
Send to frcmentorslides@nycfirst.org
Be sure to submit a Mentor Slide to thank your mentors for everything they’ve done for your team! The deadline for teams to submit for the 2024 New York City April 1, 2024.
Please use the following guidelines:
One 16:9 Slide/Image per team - list as many mentors on the slide as you like
Slide should include the Team Number, Team Name, Name of Mentor(s), and a message to them. Also include mentor photo(s) if available.
Do not include a background color or background images on your slide
All slides must be submitted by Friday April 1, 2024 to frcmentorsslides@nycfirst.org
Submissions will be reviewed by the NYC FIRST team and you will be contacted with any changes
JUDGING/AWARD SUPPORT
Teams, if you want support or practice for awards reach out to us at frcawards@nycfirst.org. We offer awards documentation and submission review and practice interviews for Dean's List and FIRST Impact Award.
MECHANICAL/PROGRAMMING SUPPORT
The FRC Committee has established a great team of individuals that are willing to visit your schools in order to offer you support this season. Feel free to reach out to them at frcsupport@nycfirst.org
The Cornell Tech STEM Center is open to FRC teams! The CT STEM Center is located on Roosevelt Island at 11 E Loop Rd #6a, New York, NY 10044. Open hours for teams to stop by are:
Monday: (flexible by request)
Tuesday: 4:00pm-8:00pm
Wednesday: 4:30pm-8:00pm
Thursday: 4:30pm-8:00pm
Friday: 2:00pm-5:00pm
Saturday: 1:00pm-8:00pm
Sunday: 1:00pm-8:00pm
The staff there can help with the following:
Help teams fabricate parts for their robot using the CNC router (can cut aluminum up to a quarter of an inch, polycarbonate, and VersaFrames)
Help teams print nylon and carbon fiber reinforcements using the MarkForge printer
Help teams rapidly prototype parts using the laser cutter (for acrylics and up to a quarter of an inch plywood)
Help teams with their CAD using Fusion 360 and OnShape. The STEM Center is currently working on installing SolidWorks onto their computers but can open Solidwork files with no problem.
Connect teams with other teams in the space to collaborate
If teams want to bring their robots and need help with building, a loading dock entry is available and teams can either park on the street or in the private, paid parking.
